Quantifying community and economic benefits helps Australian Unity monitor its vision for the Herston Quarter redevelopment.
The Herston Health Precinct, two kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD, is home to more than 30 health facilities, medical research institutes, universities and organisations. More than 13,000 clinical and non-clinical staff, scientists, researchers and students work within Precinct each day.
Herston Quarter, six hectares of land within the Herston Health Precinct, is being redeveloped by Australian Unity after it was selected as the preferred tenderer following a competitive bidding process with Queensland Treasury, Queensland Health and Metro North Hospital and Health Service. Australian Unity is a mutual company focusing on taking care of its members and supporting real wellbeing.
Australian Unity’s vision for the award-winning Herston Quarter is “An exemplar health and innovation destination leading in collaboration, advancing wellbeing and vibrant community life”. Australian Unity proposes that when complete, Herston Quarter will:
- Integrate health and wellbeing, balancing purposeful activity with a lifestyle focus
- Provide welcoming and accessible spaces to enjoy
- Offer a mix of amenity to enhance daily life, and
- Deliver a quality environment, creating opportunities for people to connect and build a strong sense of local community.
SGS is working with Australian Unity to monitor how this vision is progressing throughout the life of the redevelopment project. Our team is doing this by describing and quantifying the community and economic benefits generated by Herston Quarter on an annual basis over the 2020 to 2030 period.
