October 2011 has seen both the Canberra and Melbourne SGS offices win the Planning Institute of Australia Workplace Award- Consultant Planner for their respective divisions. Both the Canberra and Melbourne offices were praised highly for their focus on staff development and wider promotion through regular seminars and the well established Urbecon publication. SGS's staff development fund and SGS scholarship were noted as being highly effective in supporting young planners in their developing careers. Canberra's efforts in providing work experience opportunities for international students were praised, with Melbourne's commitment to in house training and fitness programs being also commended by the judges. When looking at SGS's project management and financial processes, the PIA judging panel commented that "better models would be hard to find". Well done to the Canberra and Melbourne team for their efforts in the past year.
