Taking the Middle Way ‐ A Sustainable Approach to Indigenous Development

As we learn the lessons of our past, it is becoming clear that Australia needs to take a middle way if we are to achieve sustainable Indigenous development.

This middle way would make the best of and combine both traditional and non-traditional worldviews and values for development.
This middle way would also bring together the best of rights-based and practical reconciliation approaches.

Finally, this middle way would set a new standard for Indigenous development, based upon an objective understanding of the essential foundations for stable human development, providing a sound and consistent framework for Indigenous development practice.

SGS Associate Director Paul Howorth presented ideas for such a framework, at an SGS Canberra seminar on 28 July 2009.
