Metropolitan governance for the Australian City: The case for reform

Major reform of metropolitan governance for Australia's principal urban regions is needed, argues a paper released by Griffith University‘s Urban Research Program. The paper reviews the planning and urban policy challenges facing Australia's major cities and argues that a shift to stronger and more explicit metropolitan governance is a precondition for comprehensive policy response to threats to national sustainability and security. The authors are some of Australia's most experienced commentators in urban research and urban policy: Professor Brendan Gleeson and Senior Research Fellow Jago Dodson of Griffith University, and Dr Marcus Spiller of SGS Economics and Planning.
