Ireland sabbatical generates Occasional Paper on metropolitan governance
SGS Economics and Planning Pty Ltd operates a sabbatical scheme under which Partners in the firm may undertake study tours, attend conferences or undertake focussed research in particular areas of interest aligned with the objectives of the company.
In November 2011, Marcus Spiller, a Principal and Partner of the firm undertook a 3 week sabbatical at the National University of Ireland Maynooth, conducting research on metropolitan governance issues. The results of his work informed the first of a series of SGS Occasional Papers.
"Measuring and capturing the value from metropolitan planning; lessons from Melbourne and Dublin" focuses on the modern challenge of improving urban management. It revisits the economic warrant for effective urban planning at the metropolitan level, then discusses the efficacy of metropolitan governance, with reference to recent experience in Melbourne and Dublin.
